Fiona was educated at Bishop Wand Church of England Secondary School, Kingston Polytechnic, and Birkbeck College, University of London. She then spent the next few years as a research Scientist with British Gas based in the West Midlands.

She trained for the ministry at Trinity College, Bristol, having tried hard to ignore God’s call into full time ministry since her undergraduate days. She even tried backpacking around the world for 6 months immediately before her training to avoid it!

She served her curacy in the market town of Cirencester, in the Cotswold, and whilst here became one of the first women in 1994 to be ordained priest. Later that year she moved 30 miles up the road in a westerly direction to become Assistant Chaplain at Cheltenham & Gloucester College of HE. She enjoyed working in higher education and so three years later moved to the South Coast to be chaplain at the University of Portsmouth.

In 2004, Fiona took up a new challenge, exchanging her sea view for a view of the Thames in East London. She also swapped the world of education for the world of business. Fiona arrived as Bishop’s Chaplain in Docklands in June 2004. Since then she has been setting up this pioneer ministry to all the workers on the Canary Wharf Estate. Fiona totally believes in time off from work and enjoys reading (including crime fiction), good food and exploring different parts of the world and recently trekked in the High Atlas Mountains with a group of local business men

If you are feeling worried or anxious, it can affect your work. So it can help just to chat confidentially to someone outside your company or organisation – someone who won’t pass judgement about how you’re feeling.

If you feel you’d like to chat informally – whether about anything spiritual or not - over a cup of coffee (or even a glass of wine!) the chaplain is very happy to meet up with you. She will try and meet with you on the day as you contact her. If that is not possible, it will be as soon as you and she can agree a mutual time.

If you work on the Canary Wharf Estate, the Chaplain is available to offer help and support you, whatever your beliefs; even if you say you are not religious. Chaplaincy, although Christian in Foundation, is very happy to refer you to other people who may be of help. Chaplaincy is a good place to start.
